Researchers Grow Rare Eye Vessel Cells to Halt Vision Loss

A new study demonstrates the first successful generation of retinal endothelial cells from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). When tested in vitro, the cells accurately modeled the tissue degradation of diabetic retinopathy, and when injected in vivo, they successfully integrated to regenerate damaged retinal blood vessels and restore function.
